The high traditional design of Old World is inspired primarily by classic European styles of antiquity. Clearly influenced by the later Renaissance period, which featured enrichment of ornament and outline, Old World reflects the elaborate details of the French and English translation of this significant architectural movement. Roman design standards like columns and pilasters were applied to furniture as well as a full complement of bases, cornices and pediments. The veneer is created by artistic use of cathedral cherry and exotic avodire veneers set off by fine herringbone inlay. Sculptural acanthus leaf carvings adorn the canted pilasters of the case pieces, and the case fronts are highlighted by a carved frame molding in a rhythmic Lamb’s tongue motif. The top edges of this sophisticated table have the same gadroon treatment as the cases. The top profile is beautifully shaped in a serpentine shape that sets the legs at angles to make the most of the carvings and profiles. Vertically positioned cherry veneers are used on the apron rails with bead and bobbin carved moldings finishing off the bottom edge. “C” Scrolled legs are carved and shaped to blend with the collection. The offset created by the inward curve of the legs keep the shelf away from foot traffic and maintains the dominant presentation of the beautiful top. The finish is a rich and warm pomegranate shade that has both depth and clarity which allows the natural beauty of the wood graining to shine through. Burnished edges, hand rubbed fronts and machine rubbed tops provide a satiny glow that enriches the Old World feel of this collection.
